According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland have received a major boost as striker Finn Geragusian signed his first professional contract with the club, despite significant transfer interest that included Rangers.

The 18-year-old scored 13 goals in the academy last season, often stepping up to the U21s. That followed 2024/25 when he delivered 19 goal contributions, underlining his status as a leading prospect.

His 2025/26 campaign ended early because of injury, yet Sunderland moved to keep him. Already capped by Armenia, he chose to remain on Wearside.

Academy head John Hewitson said Geragusian has made major progress through hard work and that staff are delighted he will continue his development at the club.

Geragusian said he is proud, thanked coaches, staff and his family for their support, and hopes for many more positive experiences this season.

He has trained regularly with the senior squad through 2026 and is likely to have further opportunities in pre-season. In April, head coach Régis Le Bris said pre-season is often the best time to integrate young players and that the right environment can help them grow when resources are limited. He added it remains early for Geragusian to play in the Premier League, competition is high in his position and he will have to wait for chances.
