Sunderland linked with Marcos Senesi as Barcelona ‘to prepare’ proposal | OneFootball

TEAMtalk reports that Sunderland are among the clubs monitoring Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, who is due to become a free agent this summer, with Barcelona currently seen as frontrunners.

The 28-year-old is set to leave the Vitality Stadium at season’s end, having informed the club he will not sign a new deal, a stance that has drawn wide interest.

Sunderland are said to have registered interest and held talks with his representatives, alongside Tottenham, Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Chelsea have also explored the situation, with any contact described as preliminary.

Senesi joined from Feyenoord in 2022 and has been a regular for the Cherries. This season he has started every Premier League match he has been available for, helping to record five clean sheets in 25 league games and supplying four assists.

Admiration has also emerged from abroad, with Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli credited with interest. Barcelona are said to be pushing hardest, having stepped up talks in recent weeks and preparing a proposal viewed favourably by the player’s camp.

Any Sunderland move would hinge on their defensive plans for the summer. The Black Cats are expected to reassess options across the squad, particularly at centre-back, given the increased demands of Premier League competition and the need for depth.
