Sunderland have 13 players out on loan this season, with mixed fortunes across England and Europe.
According to Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats’ cohort ranges from Premier League promotion chasers to continental hopefuls.
Simon Adingra struggled at the Stadium of Light, with one goal and no assists in 15 games, but has three in seven Ligue 1 outings for Monaco, including a brace in a 3-1 win over Nantes. If he carries on like this, Monaco will surely trigger their £16m buy option.
Anthony Patterson’s demotion under Regis Le Bris felt harsh, though Robin Roefs has been among the Premier League’s signings of the season. Since joining Millwall, the 25-year-old has started seven straight Championship matches, keeping three clean sheets as they won four, lost two and drew one, sitting two points off the automatic spots. He owns a 70.8% save rate and has conceded one goal per 90 minutes.
Dan Neil has been rotated at Ipswich, averaging 1.45 chances created, 49.1 successful passes and 6.29 duels won per 90. He has helped narrow the gap to Boro in second to two points with a game in hand, and with his deal up in the summer, he might eye a Premier League return at Portman Road.
Jenson Seelt’s Wolfsburg stint has swung from solid displays against Gladbach and Union Berlin to a DFB-Pokal red card, plus an own goal and a conceded penalty in a 4-3 loss to Freiburg. A knee injury has sidelined him since, with Wolfsburg down in 17th.
Arthur Masuaku has just one Ligue 1 minute and nine in the Coupe de France for second-placed Lens. Leo Hjelde has 51 minutes across five outings at Sheffield United, while Timothee Pembele has seven Ligue 1 appearances for Le Havre, including two starts, with only one win.
Alan Browne has been a success for Middlesbrough, filling roles in midfield, full-back, wide and as a makeshift No.9. Ajibola Alese has four minutes for Portsmouth before a thigh injury, and is out until early April.
Nazariy Rusyn has four goals in 19 for Arka Gdynia, though minutes have dipped. Niall Huggins has 16 appearances for Wycombe, starring across 90 minutes in a 4-0 win over Doncaster. Luis Semedo now starts regularly at Moreirense, with two goals in 16, and Zak Johnson is a 19-game mainstay with one goal for second-placed York City, who boast the division’s second-best defence.
