Sunderland ‘make enquiry’ for Óscar Mingueza, set to become a free agent | OneFootball

Reports in Italy say Sunderland have made an early enquiry for Óscar Mingueza, with Atalanta and Como also moving.

The 27-year-old will leave Celta Vigo this summer as a free agent. He came through Barcelona and has four Spain caps.

Primarily a right back, he is comfortable at left back and can also play at centre back. His experience and versatility mean there is significant interest this summer.

Sunderland need defensive reinforcements after Dennis Cirkin’s departure, while Lutsharel Geertruida’s future remains unresolved. The club did not trigger an option to buy him, talks continue over a permanent return and interest from elsewhere means a Wearside reunion is far from certain.

Mingueza made 34 La Liga appearances last season, plus 11 in the Europa League. He has also been linked with Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
