Sunderland midfielder Boothroyd signs first professional deal | OneFootball

Sunderland midfielder Niamh Boothroyd has signed her first professional contract with the club.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 19-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

Boothroyd is a product of the Sunderland academy system. She has been with the Wearsiders for the last five years. The player is very attack-minded and has contributed many goals and assists whilst playing within the academy system. Boothroyd was named in the senior squad for this season’s Barclays WSL2 fixture at Southampton.

On the international stage, Boothroyd has represented Northern Ireland at various youth levels.

After signing professional terms with Sunderland, Boothroyd said “I’m very proud to be signing my first professional contract with the club.

“This is a massive milestone for me and my family, who have backed me all the way. I’m also incredibly grateful to the coaching staff for their support and belief in my ability.

“I can’t wait to start the new season with the senior squad, and I look forward to both learning and contributing to the squad’s success.”

Boothroyd is one of five players to sign professional terms with Sunderland this summer.
