Sunderland visit Everton in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, with Régis Le Bris juggling rotation and intensity on a hectic run. According to Sunderland Echo, he has pledged to select the strongest side possible while recognising some players need a rest as they head to the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time.
GK, Anthony Patterson: that commitment could point to Robin Roefs continuing, but this looks an ideal chance to hand Patterson minutes in case he is required in the weeks ahead.
RB, Lutsharel Geertruida: he has played a lot since AFCON began so could be due a breather, yet after coming off against Brentford he might be asked to go again. He could add composure and experience to a reshaped back line.
CB, Dan Ballard: his workload is being managed carefully after a recent achilles issue, though his early withdrawal on Wednesday might have eased that concern.
CB, Luke O’Nien: he made his first appearance since that red card against Man City from the bench at Brentford. With Omar Alderete looking like he could do with a rest, this would seem a good opportunity to top up the experienced defender’s minutes.
