According to Transfermarkt, Sunderland’s squad is valued at €327.03m, 17th in the Premier League and fourth-lowest. Bournemouth sit 12th on €447.10m.

Despite three straight losses and five defeats in their last seven, the Black Cats are 12th, 11 points above the relegation places and four points behind seventh-placed Brentford. The run-in is about finishing as high as possible after an excellent return to the top flight.

An expansive summer window has told, with Granit Xhaka, Robin Roefs and Nordi Mukiele key for Regis Le Bris. January saw Nilson Angulo arrive from Anderlecht after Simon Adingra left, and he is still adapting to Premier League rigours.

Sunderland’s valuation is 7.2% down on early February. Falls for Xhaka and Simon Moore, Brian Brobbey down €2m and Bertrand Traore down €3m, the latter linked to injuries, plus the exits of Adingra, Dan Neil and Anthony Patterson have weighed on the total.

West Ham, just above Sunderland, have risen 4.6% since early February to €338.95m amid a strong spell of form. They also added Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea before the deadline.

At the top, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are the only clubs above €1bn, City on €1.29bn. Tottenham Hotspur are the outlier, fifth by value yet 16th, four points from the bottom three and in genuine relegation trouble.
