Sunderland resume Premier League action against Nottingham Forest at the Stadium of Light on Friday night, with Dan Ballard restored to the starting XI and Trai Hume drafted in at left back after the 4-3 defeat at Aston Villa.
According to Sunderland Echo, Ballard is one of two changes, with Reinildo making way. Omar Alderete keeps his place despite being withdrawn last weekend.
Régis Le Bris said on Thursday that several players had recovered from a virus, naming Alderete and Reinildo among those affected. He indicated Alderete’s withdrawal at Villa Park was linked to that situation, and added the bench now offers more options, highlighting Hume’s goal after coming on.
Sunderland XI: Roefs, Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Hume, Xhaka, Sadiki, Diarra, Rigg, Le Fee, Brobbey. Subs: Ellborg, Geertruida, Reinildo, Mayenda, Isidor, Talbi, Jones, O’Nien, Cirkin.
Le Bris is hopeful he will have Jocelin Ta Bi, Bertrand Traore and Nilson Angulo back over the next fortnight. He said Angulo and Traore are close to part training next week, probably with the squad for a spell, and that Ta Bi has started sessions and might step up next week if he continues to feel good. He added there was nothing else to flag.
