Sunderland are weighing key calls in the summer window, with winger Simon Adingra poised to return to Wearside after reports in France suggested Monaco would not take up a permanent option.
NiceMatin reports the Ligue 1 club will not trigger options for Adingra and fellow loanee Wout Faes. The former Brighton and Hove Albion winger scored one goal and made one assist in 15 Sunderland outings before joining Monaco in January, and a decision over his long-term future awaits after this summer’s World Cup finals.
Elsewhere, RB Leipzig’s Ivorian teenager Yan Diomande remains linked with Liverpool. The 19-year-old posted 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances last season, prompting talk of a fee of over £100m. His agent says Sunderland could have landed him for around a fifth of that before his Leipzig move.
“During negotiations with Leipzig, things also became very concrete with Sunderland. However, they didn’t want to trigger the release clause. Many other clubs who could have paid the €20million said they found the player very interesting, but a transfer was too risky due to his limited playing time,” said agent Wolfgang Meier, speaking to Sky Sports.
Goalkeeper Matty Young will rejoin Sunderland after another productive spell with Salford City. The 19-year-old first impressed on loan at Darlington in 2024/25, then kept 16 clean sheets in 50 games on his Salford return last season. Having signed a long-term deal last month, he is expected to head out on loan again next season.
