Sunderland winger Izzy Atkinson has signed a new contract with the club ahead of the 2026/2027 season.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international joined Sunderland last summer after leaving former club Crystal Palace. Atkinson went on to make nine appearances for the Wearsiders in Barclays WSL2 in which she scored two goals and provided one assist. The player helped Sunderland to record an eighth-place finish in the Barclays WSL2 table.

Atkinson is a talented player with four years of experience playing in the top two tiers in England. Her know-how will be important as Sunderland look to kick-on this season.

After signing on again with The Lady Black Cats, Atkinson said “I’m excited to continue representing this club. After a tough end to last season personally, I’m hungry to get back out there, give everything for this club, and help the team push on.”

Atkinson is one of many Sunderland players that are under contract for the 2026/2027 season. The Wearsiders have retained the vast majority of their playing squad from last season whilst adding further experience and quality to their ranks in the transfer market.
