Sunderland came from behind to beat Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light, a result that nudged them into the top eight and kept their European pursuit on track.

Spain international Yeremy Pino struck on the half-hour, following his goal in last weekend’s shock FA Cup loss to non-league Macclesfield. Enzo Le Fee levelled within three minutes, and Brian Brobbey drove in the winner with just under 20 minutes left. According to Sunderland Echo, the victory lifted Regis Le Bris’ side before Sunday’s fixtures.

Le Bris said his team began second best as Palace went long towards Mateta and Devenny, which caused problems. He explained half-time tweaks kept the midfield more connected centrally, improving build-up and balance after turnovers. He felt Sunderland then imposed their intentions, noting maturity and consistency.

Few expected Sunderland to be near the European places this season, yet they look firmly in that conversation. Another continental campaign would be only their second.

Opta’s latest projections have Sunderland finishing 10th on 51.80 points. Arsenal are forecast to top the table on 83.38, with Aston Villa on 73.50, Manchester City on 72.52 and Liverpool on 62.97. Crystal Palace are projected 13th on 49.09.
