Super agent Ali Barat has explained why Chelsea didn’t make a move in the end for Xavi Simons despite genuine interest.
Chelsea once again had a busy summer and made several signings, including five attackers as they completely revamped their frontline.
Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Facundo Buonanotte all arrived, whilst Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson all departed.
Despite making a number of signings in attack, one player the Blues were heavily linked with, but didn’t end up signing was Simons.
Chelsea pursued Simons for a number of weeks, and the Dutchman reportedly only wanted to join the Blues, but strangely an offer never arrived.

The Blues were under UEFA restrictions, but even after selling Jackson and Nkunku they opted to bring in Garnacho and Buonanotte.
Many are confused by the whole debacle, and Simons ended up joining Tottenham instead, but super agent Barat has now revealed why.
“There was genuine interest from both sides,” he said a quoted by Mail Sport.
“Chelsea had certain constraints at that moment, which made it difficult for them to move forward, which we totally respected and they were really clear with us from the beginning about where they were at with it.”
Having not moved for Simons, Chelsea diverted their attention to Barcelona star Fermin Lopez, but were ultimately unsuccessful in their pursuit.

Chelsea made an offer of €40m for Lopez, but the midfielder made it clear he was happy at Barcelona and didn’t want to leave the club.
Lopez is reportedly still a target for Chelsea in future windows, although a deal to prize him away from the Spanish giants will likely be difficult and very expensive, but it’s one to perhaps keep an eye on.
