Suspension served: Is Emam Ashour ready to reclaim his place?

Al Ahly are ready to welcome back Emam Ashour for CAF Champions League match against Royal Army after completing his suspension.

Ashour returns after disciplinary ban

Al Ahly will regain the services of midfielder Emam Ashour in their next CAF Champions League match against AS FAR.

Ashour has been absent since 29 January when the club punished him for failing to travel with the squad to Tanzania ahead of Champions League game against Young Africans.

Following the incident, Al Ahly decided to suspend the player for two week, fine him 1.5 million Egyptian pound and order him to train alone away from the main group.

Green light for match return

Ashour is scheduled to rejoin full team training on Friday which clears him to return to competitive action. As a result, he is eligible to feature in the upcoming match against Royal Army on Sunday.

However his participation will depend on the decision of head coach Jesper Thorup who will assess the player’s readiness before naming the starting lineup.

Contract talks planned at Al Ahly

Off the pitch Al Ahly also planning to secure Ashour’s long-term future. According to Egyptian media reports, the club want to extend his contract for four more years including the two remaining seasons on his current deal.

The proposed offer would place Ashour in the club’s top salary tier, with annual wage of around 35 million Egyptian pounds. Al Ahly are also preparing commercial deal for the player, worth similar amount or slightly less.
