Tabitha Chawinga’s surge in form arrives as Lyon prepare to meet PSG in the Women’s League Cup final in Abidjan. The Malawian forward, the squad’s only African international, views the Côte d’Ivoire showpiece as a celebration for her continent.
According to Le Progres, Chawinga has scored braces in back-to-back matches. She struck twice in Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Le Havre after doing the same at Marseille in a 6-2 victory, and added two assists in the latest game.
She is the division’s second top scorer on 11, behind PSG’s Romée Leuchter on 14. Chawinga has had a hand in six of Olympique Lyonnais Féminin’s last nine goals.
She has credited the team for her form, and her season tally stands at 19 goals and five assists in all competitions.
Lyon will look to her as one of their major weapons as they chase their first trophy of the season against PSG.
