The loan deal between FC Bayern and Tottenham Hotspur could soon become a permanent transfer. According to transfer insider Nicolo Schira, Spurs have officially opened talks with the German record champions over the permanent signing of Joao Palhinha.
The Portuguese initially moved from Munich to London on loan in the summer of 2025. According to Schira, the aim now is to negotiate the €30 million purchase option agreed in the contract – Tottenham are apparently hoping for a discount.
It remains to be seen whether FC Bayern will agree to a concession, but one thing is clear: Palhinha no longer plays a role in Munich’s future plans. Those responsible around Max Eberl and Christoph Freund want to bring the matter to an economic conclusion as soon as possible.

Palhinha was signed from Fulham FC in the summer of 2024 for around 50 million euros – as Thomas Tuchel’s dream player. However, the 30-year-old was never able to establish himself permanently under Vincent Kompany. His transfer is now considered a bad investment, which Bayern wants to at least partially compensate for.
A permanent move to Tottenham would be a financially sensible option from Munich’s point of view. FCB already collected five million euros in the summer through the loan fee – ideally, up to 30 million euros could now be added.
In England, the defensive midfielder has quickly impressed under coach Thomas Frank. Palhinha is an undisputed regular at Spurs, appearing in eleven Premier League games and scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Frank recently raved publicly about his top performer: „Joao is a key player for us – he brings stability, aggression and leadership to our game.“
In view of his strong performances, it seems to be only a question of price. For FC Bayern, the sale would be a conciliatory conclusion to a transfer that never worked out as planned in sporting terms.
