Tchê Tchê has re-established himself as a starter under Renato Gaúcho, scoring Vasco’s goal in the 1-1 draw at Coritiba on Wednesday at Couto Pereira in the ninth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, his first under the new coach.
He has started five consecutive matches, all under Renato, his first such sequence since late October, six months ago, when Vasco strung together wins. According to Globo.com, his current form has reinforced the 63-year-old coach's trust.
He impressed during part of 2025 but finished the season as a substitute after the rise of Thiago Mendes.
Renato has adopted a three-man midfield, allowing both to play together. Wearing 23, Tchê Tchê is now captain and a technical leader in the side. Number six Thiago Mendes has also lifted his level in recent games.
The tweak aimed to protect the edge of the box and sharpen defensive transitions, but it has also freed the midfielders to affect attacks. Thiago Mendes has scored two goals since Renato arrived.
