Ange Postecoglou is hopeful skipper Heung-Min Son will 'kick on now' after returning from injury against Palace on Sunday.
After a month and seven matches out with a foot problem, Sonny stepped back into action off the bench with 58 minutes on the clock at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Naturally, the countdown is on for UEFA Europa League Final against Manchester United in Bilbao on 21 May, and Ange told the media at a pre-final press conference on Monday how important it was for Sonny to get minutes under his belt this week against Palace and Villa this Friday (16 May) and that, if all went to plan, he'd be 'in good condition' for the showpiece in Spain.
"Firstly, from a physical standpoint, he's good," said Ange. "It's important he got some minutes yesterday, he needed them. More for himself psychologically than anything else. He had a good session today. He was never going to do the whole session because he played yesterday. He feels good so we've still got eight or nine days to go and a game on Friday where we can build him up.
"It's great to have him available. He's been a big catalyst this year and a driver of... he understands better than most what a trophy would do for this football club and for him personally because he's had an unbelievable career here in which he's done just about everything but the key bit, that silverware, which every player craves. He knows how significant it would be for the club and him personally. So, the fact that he's back available is good."
Asked later again about Sonny, Ange replied: "In terms of his fitness, he's progressing well. He played 25, 30 minutes yesterday and we should get him some game time on Friday against Villa as well. If he trains right through he'll be in good condition. He's worked hard with the medical team to get back. It was a bit of a funny injury, there was no pre-prescribed length of time (to return), it was just how he felt and how he progressed. It was important he got some game time and hopefully he'll kick on now."
