As they look to climb the Championship table in the second half of the season, Sheffield United are facing a crucial January transfer window.

After a nightmare start to the season under Ruben Selles, Chris Wilder has guided Sheffield United away from the relegation zone since his return for a third spell in charge in September, and with the Blades now just nine points from the play-off places, hopes of a late promotion push are increasing at Bramall Lane.

United have made one new signing so far this month, with defender Ki-Jana Hoever joining on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, while they have also tied striker Patrick Bamford down to a new 18-month contract after he initially arrived on a short-term deal in November.

However, while Wilder will be keen to further strengthen his squad, he has made no secret of the fact that there will also be some departures in the coming weeks, and it seems midfielder Gustavo Hamer could be a possible surprise exit.

Hamer joined the Blades from Coventry City for a fee of £15 million in the summer of 2023, but although he has been a crucial player for the club for much of his time in South Yorkshire, he has scored just four goals and provided three assists in 20 appearances in all competitions this season, and he has frequently found himself out of Wilder's starting line-up in recent weeks.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Turkish club Trabzonspor, Spanish side Sevilla and Italian outfit Cremonese are all interested in Hamer, and he could potentially be allowed to leave before the end of the winter window for around £6 million.

Sheffield United sent clear transfer demand over Gustavo Hamer amid £6 million reports

When asked for his reaction to reports that Hamer could depart for just £6 million this month, FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, from the YouTube channel Blades Ramble, admitted he would be shocked if the club accepted such a low offer for the 28-year-old, and he urged them to demand significantly more given that he still has 18 months left on his contract at Bramall Lane.

"I tell you what, that has shocked me," Jimmy told FLW.

"Not the fact there's interest in him, not the fact we might lose him this window, but the low, low fee.

"Ben Jacobs is a really reliable source, so I don't question its validity, but it just seems way too low.

"He's still got 18 months left on his deal.

"It might be a case of £6 million up front, with certain add-ons up to around £12 million, but it can't be that low.

"If it is that low, then I'd be saying we need to refuse it.

"He's not been on top form this season, in fact he's been quite poor this season if I'm being honest, with the occasional fantastic highlight moment.

"But he's worth more to us than £6 million across 18 months I would say, we can't accept an offer that low."

Sheffield United facing big Gustavo Hamer call amid growing January transfer interest

It is fair to say that Hamer has failed to reach his usual standards for Sheffield United so far this season, but he was sidelined for almost two months with injury earlier in the campaign, and he has been in and out of the team under Wilder, which has made it difficult for him to produce his best form.

There is no doubt that, on his day, Hamer is one of the most talented players in the Championship, and he served up a timely reminder of his ability with his stunning strike in his side's FA Cup defeat to Mansfield Town on Sunday, so he would be a big loss for the Blades, even if he is no longer a guaranteed starter.

Given that United signed Hamer for £15 million, it would be a surprise to see them accept as little as £6 million for him this month, and while it may be tough to make a profit on the midfielder, they could surely demand at least an eight-figure fee.
