That’s FC Bayern’s big transfer problem

FC Bayern is on the right track with its new signings. But there are still major issues with the departures—and that could throw a wrench into the entire transfer plan at Säbener Straße.

On the buying side, things are going according to plan: The signings of Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven and Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt are now considered a mere formality. For these two players alone, Munich will have to pay transfer fees totaling over 100 million euros. Vincent Kompany is likely satisfied with the squad overhaul—but the shake-up is supposed to be financed through sales. And that’s where the problem lies.

As reported by *kicker*, the German record champions have long since made it clear to four players that they no longer have a role to play. Those affected are Joao Palhinha, Bryan Zaragoza, Sacha Boey, and Alexander Nübel, who were most recently on loan.

Up to 60 million could go uncollected

Bayern are reportedly hoping to fetch between 50 and 60 million euros for this quartet. But the outlook is bleak at the moment: there are hardly any buyers in sight. And even when interest does exist, the receiving clubs apparently want to drive down the transfer fee—as is reportedly the case with Palhinha and Tottenham.

To make matters worse, the four players have little to offer to justify a transfer. Of the four, only Nübel was named to the World Cup squad. The others therefore lack the big stage to showcase their talents.

We’ll discuss the transfer issues surrounding these sales and everything related to Real Madrid’s interest in Michael Olise in the new episode of our Bayern podcast, FCBinside Headlines!

Particularly bitter from Munich’s perspective: Bayern once spent around 90 million euros on Palhinha, Zaragoza, Boey, and Nübel. A transfer loss is therefore inevitable—but the goal now is to keep it as small as possible.

In addition to this quartet, according to *kicker*, Minjae Kim and Hiroki Ito have also been given the green light to leave. However, there’s no urgency regarding the defensive duo. Reportedly, Munich is asking for around 20 million euros for each of them.

As a result, FC Bayern risks being stuck with financial baggage. While the new signings have been finalized, the financial bottom line of the summer planning continues to hinge on sales—and those haven’t really picked up yet.
