FLW has looked at those among the Blades ranks with question marks over their long-term futures
It has been a calamitous start to the season for Sheffield United, who are staring the prospect of a shock relegation right in the face.
There has been plenty of change at Bramall Lane in recent months, and not much of it good as the Blades sit inside the relegation zone heading into the Autumn, weeks after Chris Wilder returned to his boyhood club for a third time following Ruben Selles' disastrous six-game tenure.
The 58-year-old has already vouched to make the requisite changes to his squad in January, leaving the long-term futures of many up in the air.
However, Football League World has looked at the players in S2 who will be departing at the end of the season regardless, especially if nothing is to change.
Danny Ings has only been with the club a matter of weeks, with the 33-year-old signing on a free transfer following a short trial period in South Yorkshire after leaving West Ham in the summer.
Wilder has already sung the praises of the veteran striker for his reading of the game and clinical ability in front of goal, which could see his time at the club extended into next season courtesy of a club option within the aforementioned deal.
Similarly, Tom Davies also adds a wealth of Premier League experience and quality following his recent return from injury.
After making just 16 appearances last season, the former Everton man will hope his ability to dictate games from the centre of the park can see United push up the table, as well as potentially seeing his time at Bramall Lane continue past the expiry date of his three-year deal, which is currently June 30th.
Ben Mee has the exact same contract as his former Burnley colleague Ings, having joined on a free transfer on Deadline Day following an exit from Brentford in the summer.
The 36-year-old has already impressed despite the Blades' disastrous start, although his age of 36 will certainly cause debate whether he should be kept on following the season's end.
Adam Davies has largely been an understudy at United since joining from Stoke City in January 2022, deputising for the likes of Wes Foderingham, Ivo Grbic and Michael Cooper.
The six-time Wales international penned his most recent extension in July 2024, and that is set to expire next summer.
The first of five loanees at Bramall Lane is Republic of Ireland international, Chiedoze Ogbene.
His performances thus far have certainly divided opinion, and he has now become accustomed to featuring in a wing-back role due to Wilder's adoption of a three-back system.
Therefore, the 28-year-old, who made a temporary switch from Ipswich Town, will have to up his performance levels before a permanent deal can be taken into consideration.
Louie Barry is in the midst of a second Championship loan stint away from Aston Villa, having initially reunited with Selles after an unfortunate injury-hit spell at Hull City last season.
However, after netting 16 times in 25 appearances at League One level for Stockport County last term, it remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old can cut it in the division above, having failed to nail down a starting berth since Wilder's reappointment.
Another man with strong connections to the former United boss is New Zealand centre-back, Tyler Bindon.
The 20-year-old had previously impressed in League One during a stint at then-cash-strapped Reading, eventually seeing out the 2024/25 season at the Select Car Leasing Stadium after Nottingham Forest paid for his high ceiling of potential in January.
However, the defender's stint at Bramall Lane could be over before it even gets chance to get going, having also failed to nail down a place in the squad under Wilder amid a top-heavy squad when it comes to rearguard options.
That also applies to one-time Championship winner Ben Godfrey, who joined on a temporary basis from Atlanta in the latter stages of the summer window.
However, it has been an extremely tumultuous start to a second loan spell of the year for the former England international, who was the subject of major criticism for his performance in the 5-0 defeat at Ipswich Town last month.
Godfrey has since been in and out of the squad for personal reasons. However, it seems unlikely that the club's highest earner of £75,000 per week - according to Capology ESTIMATES - remains at the club long-term.
The final loanee is Djibril Soumare, who joined on a temporary basis from Portuguese side, SC Braga.
Soumare moved to the Steel City as an unknown, having only made two appearances for his parent club's first team thus far, with the loan switch including an obligation-to-buy should certain criteria be met over the season.
However, like many of the aforementioned players, the 22-year-old has been in and out of the side, making it hard to gauge whether he remains at the club past the conclusion of the campaign.
