The Blues have made a point of rewarding players with improved or extended deals if they perform to a high level.

Cole Palmer signed a two year extension last year keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033, with Nicolas Jackson doing the same, although his circumstances at the club have somewhat changed.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo looking for improved contracts

It very much seems to be a case by case situation when it comes to offering new deals, with Marc Cucurella signing improved terms last year.

There’s been reports of Chelsea wanting to offer Caicedo a new deal, and the Ecuadorian has switched his representatives.

However, The Athletic have reported several senior players, including Fernandez and Caicedo, want to negotiate improved terms.

The report adds Chelsea sources say this is normal and is seen as validation of the club’s size and ambition, whilst it’s also been reported the Blues are determined to stick to their policy of not renegotiating deals mid-season.

Fernandez is currently under contract until 2032, whilst Caicedo’s current deal runs until 2031 with an option of a further year.

Despite having an abundance of options in the middle of the park, it’s believed Chelsea have made a new midfielder a priority this summer.

The Blues reportedly want to ease the burden on Fernandez and Caicedo, whilst there remain doubts over Romeo Lavia’s fitness.
