Celtic today posted a list of the Celts currently away on international duty with 11 players representing nine countries and one Celtic first team playing at U21 level for his country…

Celtic will be represented in national squads from Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Tunisia, USA, Japan and Uruguay during this international break as many countries look towards the World Cup next summer whether that’s in qualifying matches or preparation for the greatest footballing show on earth, having already secured a place.

And 19 year old Colby Donovan will be the Celtic first team player representing his country at u21 and incidentally that exactly why he was rested at the weekend against Motherwell. Scotland U21s will be looking to pick up their first points in European Championship qualifying as they take on Gibraltar and Azerbaijan.

There will be more attention though on the two Scotland matches at Hampden and if Steve Clarke’s side can take six points from the games against Greece and Belarus then the World Cup dream will start to edge towards coming true. Greece are decent and will be hurting after being shocked by Denmark in Athens in their last qualifier. Essentially they need to win at Hampden while Scotland know the importance of winning home games.

Other Celts in action for their respective countries are Benjamin Nygren (Sweden), Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark) and Viljami Sinisalo (Finland), Sebastian Tounekti (Tunisia, who have already qualified for the World Cup), Daizen Maeda (Japan, also qualified and are playing friendlies against Paraguay and Brazil), Cameron Carter-Vickers (co-hosts USA) and finally as already mentioned by Just an Ordinary Bhoy earlier today Marcelo Saracchi who has been recalled to the Uruguay squad for friendlies against the Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan in Malaysia.
