Ahead of the official presentation this evening, we’ve looked at the bookmakers’ favourites to claim the 2025 accolade.
Vitinha – 20/1
The Portuguese was part of Paris Saint-Germain’s treble-winning side, emerging as the midfield metronome of Luis Enrique’s all-conquering team.
Vitinha was included in the Team of the Tournament for Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2024/25, while he also helped Portugal to summer success in the UEFA Nations League. A trophy-laden season for the 25-year-old.
Mohamed Salah shattered records in the Premier League last season, with his 47 goals and assists a record for a 38-game league campaign. Salah led the league for goals (29) and assists (18) as Liverpool powered to the Premier League title under Arne Slot.
He was recognised with a record-breaking third PFA Player of the Year award, while equalling the landmarks for FWA Footballer of the Year (3) and Golden Boot (4) accolades. However, an early exit from Europe with Liverpool could count against him in the vote.
Raphinha’s redemption was one of the stories of the 2024/25 season, as the Brazilian bounced back in style at Barcelona. Heavily linked with leaving Catalonia in the pre-season, he instead became the driving force of the club’s title-winning campaign.
Raphinha was named La Liga Player of the Season last term and was also the Champions League’s joint-top scorer.
Lamine Yamal – 6/1
Lamine Yamal is the second favourite with the bookmakers in what could be a historic night for the Barcelona winger. Yamal could become the youngest-ever Ballon d’Or winner – and first teenager to claim the prize – if he wins Monday’s vote. The 18-year-old led La Liga for assists last season and produced a series of sparkling performances as Barcelona won a domestic double. He will break Ronaldo Nazario’s record if he wins the Ballon d’Or tonight.
Ousmane Dembele is the odds-on favourite to claim the prize. The Frenchman was the best player in Europe’s best team last season, scoring 35 times as PSG won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, the Trophée des Champions, and an elusive first Champions League title.
Dembele has never been nominated for the Ballon d’Or before but is now an overwhelming favourite to become the sixth Frenchman to claim the prize.
