Michael Carrick has confirmed that a decision on his future at Manchester United will be made soon.

Carrick has made himself the frontrunner to become the club's next permanent manager after an impressive interim reign. The 44-year-old replaced Ruben Amorim in January and has led the Red Devils toChampions League qualification.

Carrick's collection of wins includes victories over Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea, with several club figures having urged a permanent deal. The expectation is that Carrick will be offered a two-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option of a further season.

Ahead of this weekend'sPremier League fixture with Nottingham Forest, Carrick told the media that a decision was imminent.

"[I] can’t blame you for asking. [There are] two games to go, there's not much else I can say," the interim manager said.

"The situation is pretty clear for us all. Same as. It doesn’t change what we are doing this week.

"The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon, nothing has changed.

Carrick 'immensely proud' of Manchester United interim reign

Carrick reflected on the club's performances under his management and said he is immensely proud of his achievements.

United lead the Premier League for points won since Carrick's appointment and will return to the Champions League next season after a two-year absence.

"It’s a unique football club, a special football club. I'm immensely proud to have come back and been a part of it, to help.

"As a supporter and ex-player, as a pure supporter and caring about the club so much, to come back and help and move the club forward was important.

"To make a big step and get back in the Champions League is good. We’re happy with the work we’ve done so far."

The clash with Forest will be United's final home fixture this season and Carrick said it's important that his squad thank the fans for their ongoing support.

"I think that’s important regardless of the situation. The supporters are a massive part of this club. We thank them - and I certainly thank them - for the season and the support, the last four months for me personally," Carrick said.

"Regardless of that [his future], for what we’ve gone through and that connection, the players have felt that, it’s important we have that anyway.

"It’s important for me to thank the fans for that."
