Sunderland travel to St James’ Park on Sunday for the Tyne-Wear derby, with both Régis Le Bris and Eddie Howe carrying significant injury concerns.

Sunderland Echo reports that the visitors have the longer list, though the hosts also face key absences and they suffered a setback during Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona. Both managers are scheduled to provide updates at their Friday press conferences.

Bruno Guimaraes has been sidelined since February with a hamstring injury and will miss the game. He is expected to return after the international break.

Lewis Miley sustained a dead leg and subsequent muscle damage late in January and has not featured since. He is close to fitness but, like Guimaraes, is expected to sit this one out and target a return after the international break.

Sandro Tonali is a major doubt after being forced off early in the second half against Barcelona with a hip or groin issue.

Reinildo has built towards full fitness over the last fortnight and, having resumed full training over the weekend, is expected to be available for Sunday. He impressed in the reverse fixture and his return would be a major boost to Sunderland’s hopes.
