Alisson Becker’s future at Anfield has never been less certain, and a departure could be on the cards this summer.

Reports linking the Brazilian with a move away from Merseyside have persisted for the last few months, with Juventus increasingly confident they will sign the ‘keeper.

Both Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman have deputised for Alisson due to injury this season, and some believe that the former will be given the opportunity to step up and fill the no.1 spot if the Brazilian does go.

This would still leave Liverpool needing a capable back-up ‘keeper, but the perfect option may have just hit the market.

Perfect Liverpool back-up now on the market

Mamardashvili has sufficed as back-up to Alisson this season, even if there are very reasonable reservations about his ability to distribute the ball, and if the Georgian is promoted to first-choice then a new deputy will have to be signed.

Enter Noah Atubolu, the 23-year-old German goalkeeper that will likely be leaving Freiburg this summer.

Atubolu has played every Bundesliga and Europa League game for Freiburg this season, including Wedensday’s final against Aston Villa, but is expected to move on this season.

That’s according to Bulinews, who claim that Brighton and AC Milan are both keeping tabs on the situation.

With just a year left on his current deal, Atubolu is valued at around €20 million (~£17.5m) according to the report.

Reliable transfer insider Florian Plettenberg also recently confirmed that Freiburg have a deal in place with Werder Bremen ‘keeper Mio Backhaus, who will be Atubolu’s replacement.

Atubolu represents a cost-effective option for Liverpool and the German’s distribution isn’t as big of a concern as Mamardashvili’s, meaning he could provide good competition for Liverpool’s no.1 spot next season.

The Reds haven’t been linked with Atubolu yet, but if they are searching the market for a new ‘keeper, then the 23-year-old will no doubt be on their radar and Richard Hughes and Co should be exploring a deal if Alisson is going to leave Anfield.
