Barcelona remain determined to bring Julian Alvarez to Spotify Camp Nou, and fresh details have now emerged explaining why the Argentine striker views the Blaugrana as his preferred destination despite interest from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Alvarez’s desire to join Barcelona is based on the fact that the Catalan giants offer the ideal environment to rediscover his best football.
He feels that at Camp Nou, he will be surrounded by top teammates and a system that suits his style far better than his current surroundings.
While Arsenal and PSG continue to monitor Alvarez’s situation, Barcelona are said to have a significant advantage because of the football project they can offer.
Beyond his personal ambition, Alvarez believes the team’s attacking philosophy would allow him to enjoy his football again after a difficult spell under Diego Simeone.

Despite reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals during the 2025/26 season, Alvarez has endured a frustrating campaign in domestic competition.
This is because Atletico Madrid finished fourth in La Liga, ending the season a whopping 25 points behind champions Barcelona, while the striker has yet to win a trophy since arriving at the club.
According to the report, Alvarez has grown increasingly frustrated with Atletico’s tactical approach, often finding himself chasing possession, covering large areas of the pitch and creating opportunities on his own rather than consistently operating in dangerous attacking positions.
On the other hand, Barcelona’s possession-based style is viewed as a complete contrast, which offers the Argentine far greater freedom in the final third.
Another major reason behind Alvarez’s preference is the quality of Barcelona’s squad.

The opportunity to play alongside creative midfielders such as Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo, while linking up with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal in attack, is believed to be one of the strongest attractions.
In particular, Yamal’s rise has become a decisive factor, with Alvarez believing that playing alongside him would elevate his own game and Barcelona’s attack.
Having said that, although Alvarez favours a move to Barcelona ahead of Arsenal and PSG, turning that preference into reality remains far from straightforward.
This is because Atletico Madrid continue to resist the idea of negotiating with one of their biggest domestic rivals, making any agreement extremely difficult despite the player’s reported desire for a change.
Right now, there is so much work to be done on the matter and no resolution is expected, at least until the end of the World Cup.
