FC Bayern continues to seek reinforcements for its offense—but a prominent candidate appears to be slipping further out of reach. In the race to sign Marcus Rashford, a move within the Premier League is taking shape that could leave Munich out of the running.

For weeks, the English national team player was repeatedly linked to a move to Säbener Straße. Recently, however, interest from Munich had cooled significantly—and now there are strong indications that the German record champions might come away empty-handed in their pursuit of the 28-year-old.

The reason is competition from England: As TeamTalk reports, Tottenham Hotspur is making an intensive push for Rashford. The decisive factor here is finances. According to the report, the London club is reportedly willing to cover the forward’s high salary without any cuts. It is precisely on this point that FC Bayern apparently isn’t willing to go along.

Salary Becomes the Sticking Point for Bayern Munich

According to the report, Rashford will earn around 325,000 pounds per week next season, which amounts to roughly 18 million euros per year. Theoretically, the Munich club could afford this sum—but they’re unlikely to put together such a package for a backup forward. With this salary, the Englishman would immediately become one of the top earners on the roster anyway.

Rashford’s current situation also complicates a return to Munich: He spent last season on loan at FC Barcelona.

However, the Catalans have ruled out a permanent transfer; instead, they are focusing on Atlético star Julián Álvarez.

United no longer has plans for Rashford

The Argentine is reportedly now also on Manchester United’s radar—the very club Rashford is set to leave after more than a decade. The forward still has a contract with the Red Devils through the end of the 2027–28 season, but he no longer features in the club’s plans. Reportedly, club officials are even willing to make significant concessions to interested clubs during transfer negotiations.

For FC Bayern, this latest development is initially a potential setback. As long as the Spurs are willing to fully match his salary demands, Munich is likely to come up short in the race for Rashford.
