Wolves supporters who headed to Mexico for the 1986 World Cup and never came back are the focus of a new film ahead of 2026.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Lost Down Mexico Way follows Adder, Batesy, Rabbit Head, Arnie and American friend Texas Steve, whose travels broadened their horizons and led to new lives in the US and Mexico.
Gary Allen, known as Adder and now Atlanta-based, developed the project with Eight Engines. First planned as a 10-minute taster, it became a sub-40-minute festival cut on YouTube and uses nicknames only. They filmed over 15 hours.
The Disco Firm came from Stourbridge and Lye, with Arnie the Solihull-based Birmingham City fan. In Monterrey their partying caused a stir, then across the border they told Texans they were England players, Batesy claiming Peter Shilton and another Gary Lineker.
In Dallas they met Steve Dawson, Texas Steve, who first mistook them for hooligans before becoming a friend and embracing their Wolverhampton songs. Rabbit Head, a painter who moved from Atlanta to Florida, died two years ago.
Their detour became permanent. Gary later built a company turning over 20 million dollars annually before retiring last year, Stu prospered in Houston’s car trade, and Arnie remained in Monterrey as a headteacher.
They still return to watch Wolves and Birmingham City. A 40-year reunion is planned at England’s game near Dallas on June 17, with another in Mexico. Timed for this World Cup, Gary is cautiously optimistic after Euro 2024’s loss to Spain, even namechecking Tuchel.
