This was a completely senseless tragedy, one that's brought extraordinary grief to an incredible number of people. There's been a far-reaching impact here and it's going to take a long, long time to settle down.

One thing all this grief has done is make it overwhelmingly apparent that Jota was loved and respected by everyone. Someone who seems to have been as nice and as down to earth as you could possibly get in elite-level football.

Perhaps that's something you hear about everyone who loses their life prematurely but it genuinely appears to be the case here. Everyone loved Jota.

That respect has certainly pushed on out beyond just Liverpool FC and his other previous clubs.

Both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid played matches on Saturday - their first fixtures since the tragedy. Both games featured tributes to Jota, too.

There were the minute silences before the fixtures, of course. Both clubs featured stars who’d played with Jota, too.

And two who didn’t made sure to pay tribute on the grandest stage they could. Ousmane Dembélé scored for PSG against Bayern Munich, wrapping the win up on 96 minutes.

His celebration was to sit down and play video games, as Jota famously did a few years ago after scoring for Liverpool.

Kylian Mbappe followed suit in the later match. He scored Real Madrid’s third against Borussia Dortmund with an acrobatic volley.

And after doing so, the Frenchman ran to the camera and held up the number 20 with his fingers before clasping his hands together. It was a muted but touching tribute to Jota.
