Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United team face Spurs this Tuesday night.
United hoping to make it seven home victories in a row.
Whilst it would be three Premier League wins on the bounce.
Ahead of facing Thomas Frank’s side, Eddie Howe declaring; “In what has been an intense period of fixtures, there are so many positives to reflect on.”
The home games against Spurs tonight and then ending with Chelsea at SJP only 18 days later, a period of time which will see a total of six games played in such quick succession.
‘This evening we welcome Thomas Frank and his Tottenham Hotspur squad to St. James’ Park.
Both teams met just a month ago in the Carabao Cup, so we are well aware of the quality Tottenham have and the threat they pose, and we will need to be at our very best to handle that tonight.
In our last home match against Manchester City, we were delighted with both the performance and the result. Coming off the back of some difficult results and an international break, we knew we needed to respond and the players started the match on the front foot and looked a danger each time we attacked.
We didn’t get the reward we deserved in the first half, but it came when Harvey Barnes put us ahead midway through the second half. City are always capable of scoring and five minutes later they found a way back into the match. The players reacted extremely well to this setback and just two minutes later, another goal from Harvey restored our lead, and an outstanding collective effort to see out the game gave us three valuable points and a memorable win.
We then travelled to Marseille in our latest UEFA Champions League match where Harvey continued his excellent goalscoring run with an early goal, and we had chances to add to this in a first half where we were a constant threat. Marseille scored twice straight after half time, and while we weren’t able to find a way back into the match, the players never stopped looking for a second goal on a night we felt we deserved more.
We then headed to Merseyside just a few days later to face Everton and made an even faster start when Malick Thiaw headed home in the first minute. Importantly we built on this and Lewis Miley doubled our lead midway through the half. An excellent first half display was capped off by Nick Woltemade who added a third just before half time. We continued where we left off after the break and a second goal from Malick secured the points.
In what has been an intense period of fixtures, there are so many positives to reflect on. Back-to-back Premier League wins makes a big difference in such a tight league, as does winning away from home, which we know we need to build on. The Everton result was very much a squad victory and it highlights just how important every single player will be to our season, as well as the quality we have in our dressing room.
Most of all, it was so good to reward our incredible fans who travelled to Everton with a win, and sharing this with you after the game was really special. We know many of you had a difficult night in France, and the support you all continue to give us makes such a difference. Thank you for being the very best supporters any team could ask for, and we will continue to give everything possible in return.’
