There is one move in the transfer market that Manchester City must make this summer

So far this summer Manchester City have signed four players. Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders have all become City players during the initial transfer window. The signings of Ait-Nouri, Cherki and Reijnders do add quality to the left-back position and Manchester City’s midfield. But despite the signing of four players already this summer, there is one hole in Pep Guardiola’s squad that must be filled. That is at right-back. Manchester City simply must sign a right-back this summer to round out Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Manchester City are in desperate need of a right-back this summer.

If the transfer window were to close now, Manchester City would enter next season with Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes as the two players who would be tasked with playing right-back for next season. Manuel Akanji can also play in the position if required. All three players could do a job if required for Pep Guardiola. It would depend on how Guardiola set up his team as to who would be the first choice right-back out of those three players.

But if Manchester City were aiming to have the perfect transfer window, signing a quality right-back would achieve that goal. It would give the City squad a more complete look and there wouldn’t be any apparent holes in Pep Guardiola’s squad for the 25/26 season.

Who City target for the right-back position is a story to monitor for the remainder of the summer transfer window.

Finding a player who can come in and make an instant impact at right-back for Pep Guardiola’s side is not as easy as it seems. There isn’t a host of quality right-backs available at this time. Wesley of Flamengo is one right-back who could add what Manchester City needs. The young Brazilian international is quick, can get up and down the pitch well, and has the necessary technical ability to be a Manchester City player. Although he isn’t Premier League proven, that could prove to be an issue.

Newcastle United’s versatile full-back Tino Livramento would be the perfect signing for Manchester City. Livramento is technically superb and can play at both left and right-back. He is a superb defender and can be a weapon going forward. His homegrown status makes him almost the ideal City signing. Although, signing him from Newcastle United would be no easy task for Manchester City. In an interview with Lee Ryder published in Chronicle Live, Livramento has spoken of his desire to continue winning silverware at Newcastle. But it must be said that Livramento hasn’t yet definitively ruled out a summer move to City at this stage.

If Manchester City are to enter next season with a balanced squad, signing a right-back is a must. It’s the one position that seems to be lacking in quality as of right now. If they can sign a quality right-back it would immensely improve Pep Guardiola’s squad. It does appear that it is the last remaining goal for Hugo Viana this summer. If City can sign a quality right-back it would almost be a case of rebuild complete based on who City have signed this summer and during the January transfer window.
