Thiago Mendes cleared to face Flamengo after late STJD ruling | OneFootball

Vasco have received a late boost, with Thiago Mendes cleared to face Flamengo on Sunday 3 in the Campeonato Brasileiro after a disciplinary acquittal.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva acquitted the midfielder on Thursday 30 after a tied vote. He had been cited under Article 258 of the Brazilian code for acting against sporting discipline and ethics.

Mendes made his comments after the defeat to Corinthians on Sunday 26 at Neo Química Arena in the 13th round. He suggested referee Davi de Oliveira Lacerda favoured the hosts and questioned whether crowd pressure influenced him.

While Vasco can select Mendes, Flamengo are without four players. Erick Pulgar, Paquetá and Bruno Henrique are sidelined by injury, and Jorge Carrascal is suspended.

The derby kicks off at 16:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã, part of the 14th round of the league.
