Thiago Silva has returned to boyhood club Fluminense at 41, signing after six months with FC Porto that ended in a Portuguese league title, the 33rd trophy of his career.

According to L'Équipe, the Brazilian, known as O Monstro, has signed again with Fluminense, and there appears little chance of a return to Europe.

Silva had spoken of wanting to finish his career by lifting the World Cup, but he was not included among the 26 named by Carlo Ancelotti for the tournament in the United States, despite strong displays for the Portuguese club.

He now heads back to Brazil, which he left in January.

He has made 149 appearances in the Brazilian Série A.
