Thierry Henry has denied a fabricated quote circulating on social media that purported to show him criticising Kylian Mbappé.

The former France record goalscorer said in an Instagram video on Monday, “Please stop believing everything you see on the internet.”

The Arsenal legend said he was in Los Angeles preparing for the World Cup, adding he had not spoken about Mbappé and did not know what had happened. He added that people like to tell stories.

The bogus quote, spread by parody accounts, claimed Henry had condemned Mbappé for apparently refusing to shake N'Golo Kanté’s hand. It also asserted the forward’s club reputation had taken a hit this year, suggested he was creating tensions with one of the most respected players of his generation, and concluded that legends are defined by how they treat people.

Henry signed off by wishing Mbappé well and backing France, saying, “Allez les Bleus.”
