Thierry Rendall’s start at Venezia has been set back by injury, the Portuguese full-back withdrawn on 32 minutes in a friendly against Galatasaray, according to Superdeporte. Venezia still won 0-3.

He had opened pre-season positively. He started the summer opener, a 4-2 win over Dolomiti Bellunesi.

Minutes followed in the second friendly, an 8-0 victory against Vis Pesaro, where he also scored his first goal for the club.

Selection against Galatasaray underlined his early momentum and regular involvement, only for the setback to curtail his night.

The defender endured long spells interrupted by fitness problems at Valencia, with muscular issues and other knocks limiting his continuity.

Venezia are now waiting to learn the extent of the issue, a blow that arrives just as Thierry had begun the summer in encouraging form.
