Harry Kane is continuing to turn up the heat in the Golden Shoe race. With his third brace in a row, the FC Bayern goalscorer has impressively cemented his top position in the ranking of Europe’s top scorers – and left his rivals well behind

The 32-year-old scored twice in the 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt and now has 28 goals for the season after just 23 Bundesliga games, surpassing the 26 he scored in the previous season – a tally that saw him settle for fifth place in the Golden Shoe rankings

Although the England captain conceded a penalty against Frankfurt, which made the game exciting once again, he had already set the course for victory with his career goals 501 and 502 – and continued to lead the race for Europe’s top scorer crown

Competition remains pale

While Kane continued to deliver, his biggest rivals fell flat. Kylian Mbappé was unable to prevent Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat at CA Osasuna and remained without a goal, leaving him on 23 goals and 46 points in the rankings. Erling Haaland also came away empty-handed in Manchester City’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle and remains in third place, one goal down and two points behind Mbappé

It was not a weekend for Europe’s top strikers in general. There was hardly any movement in the top 10 of the Golden Shoe ranking. Only Luis Suárez scored in Sporting Lisbon’s 3-0 win over Moreirense and collected more points

Undav climbs – Díaz stays put

From a German perspective, Deniz Undav in particular caused a stir. With his late equalizer to tie VfB Stuttgart 3-3 in Heidenheim, he increased his goal tally to 13 goals and moved up five places in the rankings. The international is currently in 15th place

Bayern attacker Luis Díaz is also in the top 20, although he failed to score against Frankfurt. Haris Tabakovic is also further down the rankings. The Gladbach player scored in the 2-1 defeat at Freiburg and is now on eleven goals, which puts him in 38th place together with Serhou Guirassy

However, Harry Kane is currently the undisputed leader. With 28 goals after 23 match days, the Bayern striker is sending a clear message to Europe’s competition – and seems determined to finally secure the Golden Shoe this season
