Michael Edwards has just agreed to an outrageous deal at Liverpool.

The former sporting director's position has come under fire in recent days with the revelation that FSG’s plan to buy a second club has become ‘dormant.’

Edwards was brought in at Liverpool to oversee not only the Reds’ operations from a football perspective but also potentially another club’s under the FSG’s umbrella.

This doesn’t seem likely to happen anymore or at least any time soon and that has cast a doubt over his future.

The shadow now looms over not only Edwards but the entire club. In the last weeks or so there's uncertainty around which direction the Reds aim to go towards.

Arne Slot's future hangs in the balance. Results have simply not been good enough and there is a genuine chance of Liverpool missing out on the Champions League next season.

Whatever happens, Edwards is still entrusted to make the most important decisions. Although with just one year left on his contract, he will be considering his future.

Just as many of Liverpool's current stars will also be looking over their shoulders and onto new horizons.

This was always the case with Mo Salah, who last year claimed in the mixed zone that he had been 'thrown under the bus' by someone at Liverpool, and that someone didn't want him at the club.

Now the Egyptian did not clarify who this mystery person was. It could have been Slot, but it could easily have been Edwards or Richard Hughes.

It's a mystery we may never solve.

But what we do know is that the legend is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

It's now official that Mo Salah's chapter at Anfield is going to come to an end come this summer. Salah will leave the club and with him herald the end of an era.

With Salah's departure, the squad that won both the Champions League and the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp will virtually be non-existent, only a small morsel of the players remain.

Salah was the beacon and the shining light of the team. He defined a generation of Liverpool and brought the club's greatest success in the 21st century.

No one was more iconic than the Egyptian King. In his prime, he was up there alongside the best players in the world. There was a time when he was definitely on par with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

But now Liverpool have agreed for him to leave the club, even though he had one year left on his deal.

It's a surprising decision. We all expected Salah to leave but not like this. The fact that Liverpool have agreed to essentially cancel the last year of his deal and not accrue any transfer fee for his services might just be the most outrageous deal of the Edwards era, and it's hugely alarming, too.

This cannot set a precedent. Liverpool cannot let their biggest assets leave on a free transfer. If the Reds did not envision a long-term future with Salah, they should have sold him and be the prudent businessmen they claim to be.

The fact that this didn't happen raises massive question marks over the leadership of the club.
