It was a first for Martin Dubravka on Saturday, playing in a Premier League match against Sunderland.

With the Mackems hiding in the lower leagues during his eight years on Tyneside, it meant Newcastle United never played a league match against the Wearsiders.

The only Martin Dubravka experience of a derby match came in the FA Cup, an embarrassingly one-sided affair that United won 3-0 on Wearside, with Sunderland struggling to get in the opposition half and the Newcastle keeper barely touching the ball.

At Turf Moor on Saturday though, Martin Dubravka fully enjoyed his first Premier League experience against Sunderland.

Once again though he saw very little of the ball.

The Mackems only managing a single effort on target as Burnley cruised to a very comfortable 2-0 victory.

Martin Dubravka revealing his emotions when reflecting on this win, how he celebrated the victory not just on behalf of Burnley fans…

“I’m not going to lie, this was a special victory for me for obvious reasons.

“I can’t even describe it.

“I spent almost eight years at Newcastle and played in a derby once.

“I’m glad that we won it.

“I got so many messages from Geordies before the match wishing me the best and that we (Burnley) hopefully smashed them.
