Queens Park Rangers are reportedly closing in on the signing of Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone.

It has been a busy summer for QPR, with new head coach Julien Stephan making a host of signings after replacing Marti Cifuentes in June, including Kealey Adamson, Amadou Mbengue, Kwame Poku and Rumarn Burrell.

However, it seems the R's, who began their season with a 1-1 draw at home to Preston North End on Saturday, are far from done in the transfer market, and according to journalist Pete O'Rourke, they have agreed a fee for Wycombe striker Kone.

Kone scored 18 goals in 41 appearances for the Chairboys as they finished fifth in League One last season, as well as netting a further three times in cup competitions, and he has attracted interest from a host of clubs this summer, including Preston, Swansea City, Leicester City, Toulouse and Celtic.

When asked for his immediate reaction to the news that a fee had been agreed for Kone, FLW's QPR fan pundit Louis Moir claimed that he could be the prolific striker the R's have desperately needed for some time, and he insisted that the potential deal further underlines the club's increased pulling power under Stephan and CEO Christian Nourry.

"I'd be beyond excited if we manage to pull this off," Louis told FLW.

"I think it just goes to show the pulling power we've got with the manager and CEO and the things that have been put in place at our football club now, it's completely different.

"If we manage get this done, other fans might be shocked that players of this ability want to join QPR after we pulled off the signing of Poku as well.

"We've got some cracking players, and, my word, this would be sensational.

"Kone brings pace, power and goals.

"He was wanted by a lot of clubs, arguably bigger clubs than us.

"He can slot right in, and he could literally be what we've been crying out for for years.

"With players like Poku, Chair, Dembele and maybe even Harvey Vale if he gets more game time this season, we have potentially got an unbelievable attacking front three or four.

"Put Kone into that number nine position with those players creating chances behind him and there is crazy potential, not just for Kone, but for us as well.

"This sort of signing is potentially going to make other clubs in the Championship think 'blimey, QPR could be onto something here'.

"With that attack and striker, if we can sort the defence out a bit, we have got a very exciting squad and a top manager.

"Kone could well continue his League One goalscoring record into the Championship this season."

Richard Kone arrival would be a game changer for QPR

After winning the race for Poku earlier in the summer, the signing of Kone would be another big coup for QPR, particularly given the strong competition they faced for his signature.

Of course, there is no guarantee that Kone will be able to replicate his prolific League One form in the Championship, but as well as being a clinical finisher, he possesses plenty of other attributes that suggest he could make the step up to a higher level relatively seamlessly.

Zan Celar started for the R's in their opening game against Preston on Saturday, but he scored just two goals last season, while there are question marks over whether Michael Frey, Rumarn Burrell and Rayan Kolli will be able to deliver consistently, so the arrival of Kone could help to transform Stephan's men into genuine play-off contenders.
