Thomas Müller has completed a move to Major League Soccer, signing with Vancouver Whitecaps after a remarkable 25-year spell at Bayern Munich.
The transfer had been in the pipeline for a while, following reports that Vancouver had acquired Müller’s MLS ‘discovery rights’ from FC Cincinnati.
In the MLS system, discovery rights give clubs the exclusive chance to negotiate with certain players. FC Cincinnati had previously been in talks with Müller after his representatives reached out last winter.
He moves to Canada after 17 years at Bayern, amassing an impressive trophy haul that includes 13 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League wins. Over the course of his Bayern career, the former Germany star made 756 appearances and found the net 250 times.
Muller had already announced in April that he would be leaving Bayern at the end of the 2024–25 season when his contract ran out, and despite mostly playing a supporting role, he still made 49 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with eight goals and eight assists.
On the international stage, Müller retired in 2024, bringing to a close a glittering Germany career that saw him lift the World Cup in 2014 and collect 131 caps, scoring 45 goals.
