Thomas Partey says Arsenal will not sit back and defend against Real Madrid | OneFootball

Thomas Partey insists Arsenal’s game plan at the Santiago Bernabeu will not change despite holding a 3-0 lead over Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Partey started at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg as the Gunners dismantled the reigning champions thanks to a Declan Rice double and superb finish from Mikel Merino.

Real Madrid face an enormous task to turn things around and progress but have previous history of coming from behind in the Champions League.

But Partey says Arsenal will not change the way they played in the first leg and will look to attack the Spanish giants.

“Well I think it’s going to be one of the biggest games (for Arsenal) with the situation and the mentality and the need we have,” he said.

“I think we have to be confident, we have to go there and play our game and try to win.

“It’s very difficult, it’s not going to be easy, we know how good they are and the quality they have from back to front so as I said we have to be confident to play our game and try to win.

“We have confidence in our game. We’ve been playing the whole season and I don’t think it will be different we just have to be confident to get the ball from them and keep the ball and try to attack them.”

Partey started and scored in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday before being forced off a knock.

But the Ghanaian will be hoping to recover in time to start again against Real Madrid and admits it will be a huge moment for this Arsenal squad under Mikel Arteta.

“Yeah I think it’s a beautiful moment,” he said. “A moment that every player wants to be a part of. I’m really happy to be a part of it and I’m really happy to be in the team.

“I think with this confidence every player has the same confidence and we are going to go there with the same confidence.
