Three Chelsea stars set to miss final two games through injury

Chelsea’s season now comes down to pride, professionalism and the faintest flicker of European possibility. After defeat in the FA Cup final, a 1-0 loss to Manchester City at Wembley, the campaign will end without silverware. For a club of such ambition and investment, that carries a sting.
Now comes Tottenham, under the lights, in a London derby that still matters. Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for Europe remain slim, with Champions League football requiring victories, favours from Aston Villa and help elsewhere. It is an awkward equation, made harder by a squad still carrying too many injuries at the wrong time.
There was spirit in the cup final, even if there was no trophy. Chelsea competed with energy and discipline, but not enough incision. That has been a familiar theme, promise without the final touch, effort without reward.
Their remaining Premier League fixtures against Tottenham and Sunderland now carry heavy significance. Chelsea have not managed back to back league victories since early March, a statistic that tells its own story. To finish with authority, they need fit bodies, clearer decision making and a ruthless edge that has too often been missing.
There was some encouragement at Wembley. Robert Sanchez returned from injury to start, while Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench in the second half, offering evidence of readiness before the Spurs fixture.
Estevao’s season is over after tweaking his hamstring during the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United. The injury also rules him out of this summer’s World Cup, a damaging blow for player and club.
There is relief, however, that surgery is not currently planned. Chelsea and Estevao have reportedly agreed on a recovery programme, with the focus now firmly on long term care rather than unnecessary risk.

McFarlane said: “I’m sure those conversations are going on, in terms of how long his recovery is going to be.
“We know that he’s not going to be fit for us from now until the rest of the season.
“Estevao is a top player, a top talent, really good to work with. But, right now, our focus is on the next three games, and we’ll do whatever we can to help Estevao with his recovery.”
Potential return date: Unknown.
Jamie Gittens’ hamstring injury, suffered during a rare start against West Ham on January 31, has become another frustrating storyline. Initially expected to miss around six weeks, he was pencilled in for a return against Newcastle on March 17 before suffering a setback.
The 21 year old has not yet resumed full training, and there are doubts over whether he will feature again this season.
“I can’t give you a definitive answer on that,” Rosenior said. “Jamie actually has responded really well to his last setback, but I don’t want to put pressure on him.
“We need to make sure he’s right in the long term.”

That is the correct tone. Chelsea need Gittens for more than one late season cameo. His pace and directness are valuable, but rushing hamstring injuries rarely ends well.
Potential return date: Unknown.
Jesse Derry’s full Premier League debut ended in frightening fashion during the 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest. A heavy collision with Zach Abbott led to the teenager being stretchered off and taken to hospital.
Thankfully, Derry is fine, but his season has ended early. Chelsea will treat him carefully, as they should. Young players need protection as much as opportunity.
Potential return date: Summer 2026.
Chelsea’s injury picture remains mixed. Sanchez, Neto and Garnacho give the squad a lift, yet Estevao, Gittens and Derry underline how fragile the closing weeks have become. Tottenham now offers a test of character as much as quality.
