Inter Miami's star power has drawn elite names. According to interheron.com, three current players could shape the World Cup this summer: Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul and Germán Berterame.
Messi continued with Argentina after lifting the 2022 World Cup and then won the 2024 Copa América in the United States. For some, another World Cup would settle any remaining Maradona debate.
De Paul has kept his Argentina place since leaving Atletico Madrid for Inter Miami. His rapport with Messi remains valued by Lionel Scaloni, whose side face Algeria, Austria and Jordan. The midfielder could again be central.
Berterame, Argentine-born and now a Mexico international, arrived from Monterrey this year. He has two MLS goals and one assist in eight games, and nine caps with two goals against Ecuador and Bolivia. With strikes in each of Miami's last two matches, he could be part of Javier Aguirre's plans, with Mexico co-hosting alongside the United States and Canada and facing South Africa, Czechia and South Korea.
Elsewhere, goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair starts for Miami but is not Canada's first choice, competing with Maxime Crepeau of Orlando City, and has conceded 14 goals in seven league games. Ian Fray helped Jamaica reach the finals by beating DR Congo in a play-off and has four caps, though he has featured only five times for Miami this season.
