As the summer transfer window approaches, Barcelona are already laying down a clear roadmap for squad reinforcement.

The priorities are well-defined, which includes a top-level centre-forward and a reliable left-footed centre-back.

Two standout names have emerged at the top of Barcelona’s wishlist, namely, Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid and Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan.

Both players perfectly fit Flick’s long-term vision, as Alvarez brings dynamism and pressing ability to the frontline, while Bastoni offers composure, ball progression, and tactical intelligence from the back.

However, there is one unavoidable reality – neither signing will come cheap.

Convincing Atletico Madrid to even open negotiations for Alvarez would likely require an initial offer exceeding €100 million.

Meanwhile, Bastoni’s contract with Inter until 2028 means Barcelona would need to invest at least €70 million to secure his services.

With Financial Fair Play constraints still looming, player sales are not just an option, they are a necessity.

And within the current squad, three names stand out as realistic departures who could unlock these marquee moves.

Ferran Torres: Barcelona’s bargaining chip

The future of Ferran Torres is increasingly tied to Barcelona’s transfer ambitions.

With Robert Lewandowski still likely to play a role next season, even if in a reduced capacity, Barcelona may not feel the urgency to retain multiple attacking options if a new striker arrives.

This is where Ferran becomes crucial.

Not only does he carry a strong market value of around €50 million, but he also represents a strong asset in negotiations with Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish international’s profile is appreciated by Diego Simeone’s side, making him a potential makeweight in a deal involving Alvarez.

For Barcelona, this is an opportunity to lower the financial burden of a massive transfer while offloading a player who, despite his qualities, has not consistently cemented himself as untouchable in the squad.

Marc Casado: A practical exit amid midfield congestion

Midfield depth is often a luxury, but in Barcelona’s case, it has turned into a selection headache.

Marc Casado has found himself pushed down the pecking order due to intense competition in the middle of the park.

Once seen as a promising option for the future, his role under Flick has diminished significantly.

Initially determined to succeed at Barcelona, Casado is now reportedly open to a move, with interest emerging from Saudi Arabia.

For Barcelona, this presents a financially attractive scenario.

Clubs from the Saudi Pro League have shown a willingness to spend beyond traditional market valuations, meaning Barcelona could secure a fee higher than expected.

Importantly, his departure would not force the club into the transfer market for a replacement, given the existing depth in midfield.

Jules Kounde: The high-value sacrifice

Perhaps the most controversial name on this list is Jules Kounde.

The French defender remains one of the most sought-after players in Barcelona’s squad, with strong interest from Premier League clubs

His contract runs until 2030, placing Barcelona in a powerful negotiating position.

While the club is not actively looking to sell, they are open to considering offers that meet their valuation.

From a sporting perspective, his departure would raise questions, particularly regarding depth in the full-back position.

However, Barcelona are already working on securing Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal, while Eric Garcia provides additional cover.

Moreover, the emergence of Xavi Espart has slightly reduced Kounde’s untouchable status within the squad.

Financially, his sale could be transformative. A major fee would effectively fund the move for Bastoni, solving one of Barcelona’s biggest priorities in a single stroke.
