Maycon Cardozo made club history at FC Bayern last weekend. The talented attacking player made his professional debut at the age of just 17 – and could even be of interest to several national teams in the future
The youngster is the first player from the FC Bayern World Squad to make the leap to the professionals of the German record champions
Cardozo got his chance in the Bundesliga match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, when Harry Kane was absent with an injury and the attacker was surprisingly included in the Munich squad
Coach Vincent Kompany finally gave the youngster his debut, with Cardozo coming on as a substitute around half an hour before the final whistle and making his first appearance for FC Bayern’s first team
For the young attacking player, it was the culmination of an impressive development
Cardozo had worked his way up step by step in recent months, initially playing for Munich’s U17s before quickly moving up to the U19s
The next step in his career followed during the winter break: the 17-year-old was promoted to the second team in the regional league. Just a few weeks later, he was already playing with the professionals – a remarkably quick rise for a player from the youth program
If Cardozo continues to develop so positively, he could also be of interest to several national teams in the future

The attacking player was born in São Paulo and would therefore be eligible to play for Brazil, so if he makes a name for himself in Europe, national team coach Carlo Ancelotti could one day take notice of him
But Brazil is not the only option: Cardozo grew up in Thailand, his mother’s home country, which means he could also play for the Thai national team
There is also a third possibility: his father is the former Portuguese footballer Douglas Cardozo, which means the Bayern youngster would also be eligible to play for Portugal
Cardozo’s father was a professional himself and played for many years in Thailand, where the former striker played 118 competitive matches and scored 37 goals. He also met his son’s mother during his time in South-East Asia
For Maycon Cardozo, his own career is only just beginning – but his professional debut with FC Bayern already shows the potential of the 17-year-old. If his development continues at this rate, several national team coaches could indeed be interested in the Munich talent in the future.
