While a new goalkeeper isn’t at the forefront of INEOS’ transfer plans this summer, there remains a possibility that one may be signed.
It is, however, likely dependent on whether Manchester United’s current No.1, Andre Onana, is sold.
The Cameroonian has been linked with a move away in recent months following another error-plagued campaign between the sticks, although it’s thought Ruben Amorim is not looking to actively offload him. Should an offer arrive in the coming weeks, it’s then up to INEOS whether they sanction his exit.

The fact that they’ve been in contact with a potential Onana successor has also raised the eyebrows of fans; according to The Athletic, United have indeed ‘been in touch’ with heavily-linked shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez, who bid a tearful goodbye to the Villa Park faithful in his final home game, despite being contracted to the club until 2029.
Since the window reopened last Monday, reports have suggested Martinez is waiting on United’s call, having privately green-lit the move up to Manchester.
The 32-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best in his position across football. He was singled out for his ‘world-class’ showings in the 2022 World Cup, which culminated in him being crowned a champion with Argentina.
He boasts a host of personal accolades, including the Yashin Trophy twice (2023 and 2024) and The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper in 2022 and 2024.
It remains to be seen what kind of fee Aston Villa would demand to sever Martinez’s ties with the side, where he’s spent the last five years of his career and racked up 212 appearances and 70 clean sheets.
For his nation, he has kept a hugely impressive 37 clean sheets in his 53 caps thus far.
