Scotland booked their spot at the 2026 World Cup in spectacular fashion, scoring twice in stoppage time to edge 10-man Denmark 4-2 at Hampden Park.
The home side got off to a dream start after just four minutes. From a cross by Ben Doak, Scott McTominay executed a brilliant overhead kick that flew past Kasper Schmeichel, sending Hampden into raptures.
Denmark grew into the game and, just after the break, Rasmus Hojlund converted a penalty after Andy Robertson’s foul to level the score.
The visitors then suffered a blow when Rasmus Kristensen was sent off on the hour mark, leaving Scotland with the numerical advantage.
Lawrence Shankland restored the lead for Scotland from a close-range finish, only for Patrick Dorgu to strike again for Denmark in the 81st minute.
With the crowd holding its breath, the drama reached fever pitch in added time. Kieran Tierney curled a stunning strike from outside the box to put Scotland ahead, and Kenny McLean capped the night with a sensational halfway-line lob to seal a 4-2 win.
It’s Scotland’s first World Cup finals appearance since 1998, a thrilling night of spectacular goals and unforgettable moments for the Tartan Army.
