TJD-SP bans Corinthians ball boy after derby melee, club avoids stadium ban | OneFootball

TJD-SP has handed Corinthians' ball boy the heaviest sanction over the derby melee, while the club avoided a stadium ban.

The ruling covered incidents from the eight February Corinthians v Palmeiras clash at Neo Química Arena in the Campeonato Paulista. Gazeta Esportiva reports that individuals from both sides were punished.

Palmeiras won 1-0 through Flaco López. During his celebration he kicked a corner flag bearing the Corinthians crest, which sparked confrontations among players, staff and officials.

Ball boy Alessandro da Silva was cited under CBJD article 254-A, paragraph 1 for physical aggression after referee Raphael Claus said he kicked Ramón Sosa amid the fracas. He was suspended for 60 days.

Corinthians had faced charges under CBJD articles 257, paragraph 3 and 213, item III, but was acquitted and received only an administrative warning.

On the Palmeiras side, head coach Abel Ferreira was punished under article 258, paragraph 2, item II for disrespecting the match officials, earning a one-match suspension that has already been served.

Forward Luighi was cited under article 258, with a one-match ban converted to a caution. Midfielder Andreas Pereira was removed from the case after an accusation he tried to damage the penalty spot during the melee, which preceded Memphis Depay slipping and missing a penalty, later mocked by Palmeiras and by the player.

Palmeiras also faced articles 257, paragraph 3 and 191, item III, was cleared of the first and fined R$ 5,000 for the second for failing to comply with competition regulations.
