Toby Collyer: United forced to take hard call

Manchester United have plans to recruit as many as three midfielders in the summer to replace two outgoing stars.
Casemiro has already announced his decision to leave upon the expiration of his contract, with a move to Inter Miami looking likely at this stage.
INEOS would also like to move Manuel Ugarte on after a disappointing couple of seasons at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils will look to bring in an elite defensive midfielder to replace the Brazilian, as well as someone from their B-list to come in place of the Uruguayan.
The club would also like to recruit a squad option, and there could be a chance that someone from Carrington steps in to fill that particular position.
Michael Carrick likes Under-18 star Jim Thwaites, while Dan Gore, back from a successful League One loan, also has his eyes on the spot.
United also have Toby Collyer, one of Erik ten Hag’s favourites from his time at the club. He made 13 appearances for the first team, including playing as an emergency left-back under the Dutch boss.
With chances hard to come by under Ruben Amorim, the 22-year-old, who was initially earmarked as Casemiro’s successor, was sent out on loan to the Championship, where he has endured two separate difficult spells.
He represented West Bromwich Albion up till January before joining Hull City in the winter. It is safe to say, both temporary stints proved disastrous due to frequent injuries.
The England U20 international managed a meagre two starts for the Baggies and a solitary start for the Tigers.
With his United contract up in 2027, the 20-time English league champions feel it is best to cash in this summer.
“What Casemiro’s imminent exit has done ever since it was announced earlier this year is shed light on United’s necessary midfield overhaul.
“Multiple arrivals are expected…in a midfield department that is on the cusp of finding itself in major flux.
“Manuel Ugarte is expected to depart while Toby Collyer could also leave permanently should a suitable offer arrive.”
Being an academy graduate, the sale of Toby Collyer will count as pure profit and, given his injury troubles, it would not be the worst call in the world.
